Quiet!!!

I have a stack of Choral Club CD's I really need to listen to. I've downloaded 4 or 5 projects that I really want to get into. Several audiobooks that I downloaded are calling my name. Talk radio is full of relevant info about one of the most important Presidential elections in my lifetime. I really want to hear what is getting airtime on our local Christian radio station.

What my soul really craves right now is quiet.

So, I shut it all off. Not for good, but definitely for my good.

We live in the age of wild over-saturation of the senses. There is always something screaming for our attention. Some diversion jockeying for our time. Some pretentious message that is without a doubt able to change your life if you will just drop the other 56.5 things you are trying to do right now. It's like a group of hyperactive flying monkeys flying and yelling from every visible direction.

God doesn't yell.

More often that not He uses a still small voice. Still and small does not somehow diminish the enormity of what He has to say. It simply means that it usually won't come across a Jumbotron, be visibly written across the sky, or be pasted on a billboard. It just means that we had better be acutely aware of when He has something to say.

He always has something to say.

Are we listening?
