4 Things Redux

Apparently this "game" has been around a while with the latest incarnation as a chain email and blog meme. I don't rate high enough to get the email, but I read the blogs. I can't resist (but I will change a few categories, some of my answers to the others were boring - plus I'm a nonconformist at heart!)

Four Jobs I've Had:
Mcdonald's "Team Member"
Truss Stacker/Builder (103 degrees outside, 123 on the pavement - lasted 3 months)
Office Furniture Delivery Person
Marketing Manager (for a direct descendant of Attila the Hun - 9 months)

Four Pet Peeves -
Chain emails
clueless drivers
Plastic people with plastic smiles and personal agendas
Loose items in my vehicle rolling/tumbling/banging around while I'm driving

Four Favorite Restaurants (mostly casual - nothing snooty here)
Banadana's BBQ
J. Buck's
The Hofbrau in Morro Bay, CA
Emperor's Palace

Four music related areas of study for 2008-
Voice lessons (I seriously need these!)
Music Theory (Am I brave enough?)
Sound Synthesis and Sampling (my new synth workstation gets here on Friday!)
Music production (I want to be able to create half decent demos myself)

Four goals for this year -
Write a musical
Learn the guitar
at least 3 co writes per month (baby steps, people. Baby steps)
Quit procrastinating

Four goals I will have no trouble reaching this year-
Tell my wife I love her more
Hug my kids more
Eat more chocolate
Write more songs

1. I will never understand how someone who can play so well is afraid of music theory.
2. Learning to play guitar? Really? Writing a MUSICAL? You are ambitious, my friend! Where do you get your time?
3. Sound synthesis and sampling. Don't know what it is. Just wanted to feel important typing it.
4. I love Anthony Evans and "I Choose Now" has such a great pay-off!

Yeah, theory is no big deal for us piano players. I remember my advisor telling me the people that do the best in theory are pianists and guitar players. The ones that do the worst are singers and percussionists. Of course, I had a fantastic theory professor and I think that makes a huge difference too.

It's not that I'm afraid of theory...I have a fairly decent grasp of the subject. Well, basic grasp. Ok, I know a little. It's just that I know I will want to delve deeper than I have time to right now.

Becky - I should have wrote, "Start writing a musical" this year. Not sure about finishing :)
