When I was but a wee lad, my mother commuted about 30 miles from home to her place of employment. Engulfed by miles and miles of farmland, the town was in the middle of nowhere. You had to be going there to get there. No accidental stumbling upon this pathetic charming little hamlet.
My mom was a school secretary for the only K-8 school there. Principals and administrators came and went. My mom was there to stay. You wanted something done, Mom was the one to go to. Needless to say, guess where we ended up going for those formative K-8 years? Yup...with Mom. In the middle of nowhere.
About halfway to the bustling town of San Joaquin, CA was a slightly larger village which had the honors of housing one of the only McDonald's on the west side of the valley. Every morning we would stop and enjoy a delicious cheese danish, expertly warmed (as expertly as 16 year olds could, anyway) and always just right. While McDonald's long ago ceased to offer them ,there still is no better breakfast that a good cheese danish.
Fast forward to today. This morning I picked my mother up to take her to work. Having a few minutes to spare, she suggested we stop at the local Stop-n-Rob to get a few morning refreshments. I chose the diet green tea and...wait....is that a cheese danish? Suddenly a ray of light illuminated the package in the midst of the other sundry processed food stuffs. It was by divine design. For such a time as this was this cheese danish born.
I would love to tell you that a million precious memories of those innocent times of eager danish anticipation gone by flooded my mind, but that would be lying. I was hungry and I LOVE cheese danish.
So I drop mom off, open up the danish, and enjoy every last morsel. (I know I am in speedy, non-descriptive mode, but this post was getting too long.)
As I was getting ready to dispose of the wrapper I noticed a significant fact that should not have escaped my scrutiny.

Oops.
I should have at least warmed it up.
Now back to my calorie conscious corner...
