Someday...

Beautiful aerial photography of London. "Someday..", he said wistfully.

A little breather

Took my wife up to Hannibal this weekend for a little rest and a lot of quiet. Grandma watched the kids (thank the Lord for local grandmas.) Can you say HALLELUJAH?

I told my wife that the weekend was totally hers. She called the shots (as if I ever get to ;) and we did, or didn't do whatever heart desired. Who knew that shopping was so near to her heart?

I forgot how good it is to take a breather every so often. Going to have to do this much more often.

On the road to normalcy (Whatever THAT is)

I am now officially off the meds that were making life rather, um, unpleasant. My specialist said to stop taking them. Thank God!

Goodbye, wretched side effects. I hate you and never want to see you again.

Can't wait to get back to normal. Not that I ever was, but getting back to my normal sounds great. Which really isn't really normal, as most of you know, but you get the idea.

WAJ UPDATE (M, this is especially for you) - Number one, I had the wrong weekend for WAJ written down, so missing was never a problem. Now the meetings at church have been postponed a week, so all is really well.

Life's little pleasures

Mom needed a little break, so I'm at the park with the kids. She didn't tell me, "You guys need to leave or I'm gonna go nuts!", but I tend to try to be proactive in that area.

As I watch my children carelessly climb, jump, and slide I can't help but wonder at how fast they have grown. Life speeds by so rapidly we sometimes forget to savor the little moments. Blink twice and you might miss one.

When they were kids...

...I bet most lawyers were the ones who spent more time arguing over the rules of the game (and making sure that every conceivable situation that could arise would be addressed by some absurdly worded statute) than actually playing.

The only difference now is they get paid hourly to do it.

(I'm not bitter about it, it's just that a pending opportunity that I'm getting impatient about is contingent upon our lawyer and their lawyer FINALLY getting in a room this week and, wait for it... actually agreeing.)

At least you know what I'll be praying about on Friday.

You're my most favoritist customer...

Received a letter in the mail from my insurance agent. Seems he wants me to leave my current insurance company and switch to, uh, him.

I'm going to ask him if he can really get me a better deal than the company I'm using now. He may just have spurred me to make a switch.

Funny, he seems to know who I am when a payment is a little late or rates go up...

Nobody's home

Just finished a two week craze with VBS. My poor wife, director of the VBS and six months preggo, was absolutely exhausted on Saturday. It was 10:30 am and not a creature was stirring at the JRod house.

Then I heard a car door slam. You don't just happen to pull into my driveway. It is almost a 1/4 mile from the main road. I dashed to the window and saw what no one should have to face. Jehovah's Witnesses - the irritating Saturday morning variety.

Maybe it was wrong, but I didn't answer the door.

New experiences

Helping with worship and a/v tech @ our 1st VBS @ church (since our "liberation"!) Singing in church is TOTALLY different than leading the kids here. I'm way out of my element (whatever that is) but i'm loving it.

Speaking of new experiences, I just started teaching our high school/college Sunday School class. Yesterday was my 3rd Sunday. The class has doubled in that time.

Okay, so now there are 6 students instead of 3, but that is still twice of what we had before.

These kids have already challenged me to stretch creatively, and they sure keep me on my toes. Standing there and sermonizing is not going to cut it. They have real questions and real concerns that I never had to face at their age. The awesome thing is a real hunger for truth in their questions that is refreshing.

I think I'm gonna like this.
