Time off

Well, friends, we are coming up on a bona fide five day weekend. This day seems to be dragging along. Dragging and dragging and dragging. It's always that way before a vacation.

I always try to take a few days off around the holidays to make them stretch. I couldn't imagine going back to work the day after Christmas. What a downer. Not to make you feel bad if you have to, but to me that is depressing. I think I'm gonna cry just thinking about it.

This year I am going to spend some serious time playing with my kids and writing songs...not necessarily in that order. I most definitely WON'T be going shopping on "Black Friday". People are just crazy. Truly crazy.

Come on, guys. It's just a "Rip Me Off Elmo" that your kids will play with for exactly 4.3 minutes before they move on to the latest media-induced craze that sends you into another mad rush to obtain something that won't matter one iota three months from now, except for the possibility that some other similarly crazed parent might inflict bodily harm, or even death, upon you because their precious Apple or Uri or Maddox (or whatever they named their child simply because some drug-addled celebrity thought they were being clever) needs that manufactured piece of toxic, lead-laced, or just plain dangerous (Made in China? it's possible!) plastic more than your little bundle of joy does.

See what I mean. Crazy. However, there will be some good deals out there...

OK, where was I?

Maybe I'll finally finish up my list of writing goals for the year. I do have some work tapes I have been neglecting to get done. And organizing. I hate organizing, but I think I have come up with a system that will work for me. If I work the system, that is.

The one thing I will do is give thanks to God for the things He has provided, the things He has prevented (Who knows what was coming down the pike?), and the unbelievable family and friends that I don't deserve, but I couldn't live without.

Oh...and speaking of those friends...thankful for the St. Louis Songwriters Group. You guys rock. I am sooo thankful for all of you.
