There's a discussion over at the WAJ discussion boards started by Sue inspired by Allie's blog that has me thinking. The topic is "SONG IN YOUR HEAD". Basically people are talking about what song is bouncing around in their heads at the moment.
I never really realized it, really, but I ALWAYS have a song or two (or five) in my head. A lot of times it is one of mine that is not yet completed (and believe me, there are a LOT that I have not completed.) Sometimes the song is one that has profoundly touched me. I don't mind those sticking around. Often it is a stupid tune that I wish I never had heard. I HATE that. Really. I mean, what does, "Ice, Ice, baby" mean, anyway? And where did it come from AND why won't it go away when I haven't heard any part of it for a LONG, LONG time?
Remember the very dated tech term GIGO? You know, garbage in, garbage out. What we take in really does impact us.
TANGENT ALERT - If what we watch doesn't affect us, why do companies spend millions of dollars for a 30 second Super Bowl commercial to try and get you to buy something? Hmmm...
Way back when, Martin Luther made an insightful comment about having no power to prevent birds from flying over, but being able to prevent them from making a nest on his head. What a great way to live. It is wonderful to keep your mind on things that are above, as the scriptures say.
It's even better to be able to do it with a really cool hook and an amazing payoff in the chorus.
Now back to my tune-filled corner.
