Went to go see Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin and some old guy (don't remember his name right now) at a rally on Sunday afternoon. Stood for over 3 hours in a sweltering stadium with over 20,000 people. I'd love to give a glowing review of the speakers and such, but 1) that's why you you read news websites, and 2) i got sunburned, my scalp is singed (washing my hair hurt the next day), and I lost my glasses, so I'm a little cranky about the whole thing.
I will, however, offer a few key observations.
- Everyone was fairly excited when cheering for the old guy (what was his name again?), but the crowd was electrified when Sarah Palin was introduced. Say what you will, but the average conservative appears to feel like they finally have someone who understands and represents them. WE THE PEOPLE, not the elite in the District of Corruption. Enough said.
- I had to chuckle as the crowd filed out to the sounds of Shania Twain's "She's Not Just a Pretty Face". (Confession - I actually had never heard the song, but I googled it to sound smart. Guess it didn't work.)
-Had one of those "moments" that just about made me jump out of my skin, cry, and do backflips all at once. I'm not even sure if I can adequately describe it...yet. As I was looking around at the crowd listening to the screams and cheers I couldn't help but imagine how amazing the sound will be of millions of saints worshiping the Lamb around the throne forever. Wow.
My eyes are crossed. I need to go get new glasses.
